Two South Plantation High School teachers were honored at the city of Plantation’s Green Day event held recently at Liberty Park. Receiving the Plantation Landscape Award for Nurturing Our Town Award were Matt Zealy and Elisabeth Jocobi.

Zealy is the Overview of the Everglades and Limnology teacher at the school and works with the Everglades Restoration (ER) Ambassadors, a group of students who travel to elementary schools and community events to teach others about the Everglades and conservation. Jocobi is a marine science teacher who is working with Fabien Cousteau’s Plant A Fish organization, a group that grows mangroves to replant South Florida beaches, so marine life can continue to survive.

The pair were honored for their work both inside and outside the classroom.

South Plantation High School students, representing student run clubs, manned five different booths at the event. Participating clubs included the ER Ambassadors; Plant A Fish; the Aquarium Horticulture and Small Animal Care Clubs and the Solar Knights, who showcased their new solar car.

South Plantation High School is an Environmental Science magnet school.
