If enough online votes are cast for South Plantation High School's solar powered car project by November 30, the school could receive $50,000 from Pepsi, Inc. to further the endeavor.

The Pepsi Refresh Project is awarding $1,300,000 each month to fund great ideas across the country. One of the projects in the running for $50,000, is the Solar Knight Project. Projects that receive the most online votes, will receive funding from Pepsi. To cast a vote for the project, go to (www.refresheverything.com/solarknights).

The Solar Knights is a unique club that designs, builds and races solar cars. The group has won numerous national titles. If the project is a Pepsi Refresh winner, club members plan to make modifications to last year's solar car, build a second solar car and then, hopefully, reclaim the national title in the classic division and capture a title in the advanced division at the Hunt-Winston Solar Car Challenge held at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Throughout the year, the Solar Knights can be seen at local events educating their communities about solar energy.

Allan Phipps, AP Environmental Science teacher at South Plantation High School is the group's sponsor. Phipps was Broward Teacher of the Year 2011 and has been named a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
