Both Broward County Public Schools and South Plantation High School teacher Pamela Krauss have been notified they are finalists for the prestigious 2009-2010 Governor’s Serve to Preserve: Green School Awards.

The District is being recognized for its interactive, environmental website “Live Green, Learn Green” (www.BrowardSchoolsGoGreen.com). Krauss was selected as a finalist for the “Green Waterwise” project. She and her students designed and constructed a solar powered irrigation system to water the edible plants they grow in the school’s garden. This is the second consecutive year Krauss has been a finalist.

The Governor’s Serve to Preserve: Green School Awards recognize exemplary and innovative efforts of students, teachers, schools and school districts to promote sustainability in the K-12 learning environment. Eligible projects were categorized in five themes: recycling, green learning environments – including indoor and outdoor facilities, exemplary green curriculum and teacher professional development programs, green service learning projects and green policies or partnerships.

The Florida Department of Education, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Collins Center for Public Policy and the Florida Foundation are the partner organizations that manage the program.

The winners will be announced October 12th at a ceremony to be held at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott in Palm Beach Gardens.
