The City of Hollywood will participate in Apollo Middle School's first-ever Going Green Expo to educate students on green initiatives. The Department of Public Works and Department of Public Utilities will provide experts on several green topics that will engage students at the Expo, which takes place on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Apollo Middle School, 6800 Arthur Street from 9:30 a.m.  - 3 p.m. Local organizations including Broward County's Keep Broward Beautiful, Florida Atlantic University and University of Miami will also provide green experts.

The Expo will feature topics, such as organic gardening, advantages of hybrid cars, litter prevention, recycling, water pollution and water conservation. During the expo, students will also showcase their green projects. The goal of the Going Green Expo is to encourage the students to adopt a green lifestyle, by not only creating a healthier environment but healthy living.

Also on Friday, the City will plant oak trees at Apollo Middle School in honor of Arbor Day.  The tree planting will take place after the welcoming ceremony. Celebrated on April 30, National Arbor Day inspires communities to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. As a Tree City USA, Hollywood understands the important role that trees play in the environment and green movement.
