South Plantation Sweeps County Envirothon

Teams from South Plantation High took first and second place overall at the Broward County Envirothon at Snyder Park. The first place team advances to the state competition in April.

Winning the first place trophy and several environmental books were Jake Edwards (senior, Davie), Richard Abrahams (senior, Sunrise), Clarindy Gonzalez (senior, Plantation), Megan Coffey (senior, Plantation), Vanessa Rosario (junior, Coral Springs). Ashlyn Valdes (junior, Sunrise) was the alternate. The students placed in individual categories: First Place in Aquatics, First Place in Wildlife, First Place in Current Issues, Second Place in Soil and Third Place in Forestry. Carl Wallack coached the team.

Taking second place overall were Viktoria Andonova, Glenn Hargrave (senior, Pembroke Pines), Jessica Millar (junior, Plantation), Candace O'Neill (junior, Plantation) and Jason Rosen (senior, Plantation) and Victoria Andonova (junior, Davie). The team also took honors in each of the categories: First Place in Soil, Second Place in Forestry, Second Place in Aquatics, Second Place in Current Issues and Third Place in Wildlife. Jody Berman coached the team.

The Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration magnet program is housed at South Plantation. For the last four years the students have taken first place at the Broward County Envirothon.
